What started out as a coupleguys
going fishing somewhere turned in a foursome of FM staffers doing the
shore at Lake Pepin. Wx guy(Randy), Dan Theim, Tyler Holm and myself
descended upon the rip rap at the sailboat harbor about 7 today and quite
thoroughly whipped the water with everything from Exude and PowerBait to
plainjanee plastics, to jigs with minnows and several other tricks of the
trade only to have the fish win out over us.
We had no way to check the water temp, but the water was still about two
feet higher than I would have liked it. Ithad plenty of color yet as well.
There were tons of minnow schools along with tons of shad and stripers of
about 5" wherever one looked, so food for the waldos was not in short
supply. Tyler got the cookie today with a 19.5 walleye and a pair of
smallies. Dan took a few small stripers while Randy and I watched. And
lost some tackle.
Being a "first meeting" for the other three in one way or
another sort of put the fishing in the backseat though and hours were
spent talking what we were doing and getting to know each other. It was
great and we all had a very fun time. We would have had five staffers
there but one was not able to swing the trip.
We were prepared to do battle with walleyes and sauger, but quickly found
out that we should have included the crappie gear as crappies were going
to those set up to catch them.
The day could not have been improved upon really. Good company and
friends, coupled with outstanding scenery was an bonus what with the
Wisconsin coast in full color.....maybe a fish or two more would have been
nice.
Next time. There's always next time!
Thanks for the company guys! Great time!
